History paintings
To cut a long story short, these paintings tell the story of my first encounter with a computer. The computer was a “Computacar” toy, given to me as a Christmas gift in the late sixties (or maybe early seventies). The car had a “memory” (sic) that could be controlled, through cuts made in a card inserted in its underside. Thus programmed, the toy would follow a path of our choosing. I remember being permanently frustrated by the car’s unwillingness to do just that. And so my first encounter with a “computer” was inauspicious enough. Yet nothing stops me today from recognizing computers’ usefulness and how amazing digital “paintings” are — the drawing underlying some paintings shown here was even digitally defined!
