The Road Not Taken
Every work of art floats above the circumstances that gave rise to it. A clear example of this is The Road Not Taken, the beautiful poem that Robert Frost wrote on the pretext of a rather petty situation — and to which, to his astonishment, more seriousness was attributed than he deemed would be appropriate. After reading the poem, I apologize for taking the road of gravity, not the road of triviality. Yet it was Frost himself who admitted he was never as serious as when he was joking.
